5m36s installation and video

”Long sheets of liturgical paper were raging in the sea breeze. Rock walls quarried for daily life, groups of stone statues filled with the history of faith, and piles of stones.

We, too, are a part of nature.

Residents and visitors tickled the surface of the earth incessantly. The sea breeze blows in response.”

This video work was produced during a one-month stay in the Kanaya district of Minamiboso, Chiba Prefecture, which is surrounded by mountains and the sea and has a history of prosperity as a quarry. Although the area is somewhat desolate, glimpses of the prosperity of the time can be seen here and there. The work is a daydream-like depiction of the contrast between nature, which threatens to swallow up the region, and the people, including the artist, who are exposed to the stillness and movement of the sea wind against the cold, steep rock walls and thick greenery.
